US-based healthcare IT company PipelineRx raised $9.1m on Tuesday in a round led by Mitsui US, a subsidiary of Japan-based conglomerate Mitsui.
McKesson Ventures, the corporate venturing arm of pharmaceutical company McKesson, and healthcare staffing firm AMN Healthcare also took part in the round.
PipelineRx has created a cloud-based telepharmacy platform that enables hospitals to outsource their pharmacy staffing while also providing round-the-clock access to a pharmacist.
The company obtained $5m in funding from AMN in March 2014, and also raised $515,000 in 2010 and $4.1m in 2011 according to regulatory filings.
Junjiro Sato, general manager of Mitsui USA’s healthcare unit, said: “PipelineRx’s innovative telepharmacy solution has been gaining momentum with hospital clients helping them manage their pharmacy operations better.
“We are excited to forge a new partnership with PipelineRx as they continue to penetrate this market as a leading provider. PipelineRx has demonstrated clinical and fiscal value in the US, and we look forward to exploring additional markets together.”
