Pixate, a US-based mobile app development platform, has raised $3.8m from venture capital firm Accel Partners in a series A round of funding.
The funding will be used to increase the quality of developer support provided by Pixate, to release the Pixate Engine for free, and to make new hires in order to bring out Android and Mac versions of Pixate.
Previously, Pixate received seed funding from Y Combinator and also $60,000 on Kickstarter, of which corporate venturing investors Walmart Labs, Appcelerator and Grupo.mobi provided $10,000 each. Pixate was founded in 2012.
Paul Colton, chief executive officer and founder of Pixate, said: “Demand exceeded our capacity to the point that both development and support started to slow, and the last thing we want is to slow down. We have so many ideas for the future, that there was really only one course of action, raise money and really go for it.”
