US-based online sports infrastructure provider for high schools PlayVS has raised $15m in a series A round from a consortium including American football team the San Francisco 49ers.
Venture capital firm New Enterprise Associates led the round, with participation from startup studio Science, CrossCut Ventures, Coatue Management, Cross Culture Ventures and assorted angel investors.
PlayVS publicly launched out of the Los Angeles-based Science in April. It operates a platform to schedules e-sports games, helps schools hold try-outs and form teams and pull in real-time stats from games thanks to partnerships with game publishers.
In October, PlayVS will launch its inaugural season, introducing organised esports to more than 18 states and approximately five million students across 5,000 high schools.
