Plehn sailing as he joins GE Capital

Robert Plehn, formerly the head of the assets backed solutions team at Lloyds Banking Group, has been hired by GE Capital International, the financial services unit of General Electric, as its capital markets leader.

Plehn will take up the new role from 1 July 2014, and will be responsible for capital market activities in GE’s European and Asia Pacific businesses. He will report to the president and chief executive for GE Capital International, Richard Laxer.

Although GE Capital does not generally make venture investments in companies, it does provide debt financing as part of its wider corporate lending and leasing activities.

In over 10 years at Lloyds, Plehn held several jobs, heading up the capital markets and debt products group, and the securitisation and covered bonds team, before moving to lead the asset backed solutions team.

Before working at Lloyds, Plehn worked for ING Bank as head of European securitisation, and then as its head of global securitisation. Prior to ING, he was a London-based partner at law firm Sidley & Austin.
