Portea accesses $37.5m series B

India-based medical home treatment service Portea Medical has raised a $37.5m series B round featuring Qualcomm Ventures, the corporate venturing arm of semiconductor company Qualcomm.

The round was led by Accel Partners, and also included Ventureast as well as International Finance Corporation, the private sector investment arm of World Bank.

Founded in 2012, Portea offers primary healthcare at home, providing access to medical professionals such doctors, nurses, physiotherapists. The company has also partnered with more than 40 hospitals to provide post-hospitalisation care.

The series B capital will go towards an expansion across India, where it operates in 24 cities, and Malaysia, where it is available in four locations. Portea will also increase its staff from 3,000 to 8,000 over the next 18 months.

Portea previously secured $8m in series A funding in December 2013 from Accel and Ventureast. Qualcomm Ventures invested an undisclosed sum in August 2014, and Portea has now revealed its series A round closed at $9m, suggesting Qualcomm provided a $1m extension.
