Portfolio companies flesh out Intel Capital deals

The details of the 16 deals in which Intel Capital, the corporate venturing unit of semiconductor chip producer Intel invested a total of $62m have continued to emerge this week.

Intel Capital is investing $10m in US-based real-time traffic data provider Inrix as part of a strategic collaboration to create smart cities analytics platforms and applications.

Automotive manufacturer Porsche provided $55m in series F funding for Inrix in September this year in return for a 10% stake. Inrix has now raised approximately $143m in funding, with existing investors including Bain Capital, Venrock, August Capital and Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers.

PrecisionHawk, the US-based developer of small, lightweight drones and the software to run them with, has raised $10m in a series B round featuring Intel Capital that was originally announced in September.

The other investors in the round were venture capital firm Millennium Technology Value Partners, angel investor Bob Young and Indiana University’s $10m Innovate Indiana Fund, which contributed seed funding to PrecisionHawk last year.

Avegant, a US-based company developing a headset that can project visual images directly into a user’s eyes, has closed a $9.4m series B round co-led by Intel Capital and Korea-based VC firm NHN Investment, the Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday

The round also included Crunchfund, DN Capital, 500 Startups, Kaiwu Capital, Michigan Angel Fund and performer Snoop Dogg. Avegant has now raised approximately $12.8m in total, including $1.5m from a crowdfunding campaign in February this year.

Reno Sub-Systems, a Canada-based developer of sub-systems for industrial manufacturers, raised $7.5m in series A funding, according to local newspaper The Chronicle Herald, in a round that also featured Innovacorp and other, undisclosed investors.

Prelert, a US-based developer of anomaly detection software, has secured $7.5m in a series B round backed by Intel Capital, Fairhaven Capital and Sierra Ventures that will be used to advance its field sales and engineering activities. Fairhaven and Sierra invested $3.75m in Perlert in 2010.
