Powerlist 2024: Amy Burr, JetBlue Ventures

It has been a busy year for Amy Burr and her team at JetBlue Ventures, with eight new investments, six follow-ons and new involvement in a second fund as an LP. The team has grown in size, too, with three new members taking the team to 12, as well as three promotions.

Founded in 2016, JetBlue Ventures has made more than 50 investments, has seen eight exits and has 42 companies in its portfolio.

Burr has been president of JetBlue Ventures since 2021 and under her guidance the venture unit has had a broad focus. Its areas of investment in the past year have ranged from passenger experience software provider Assaia, and cybersecurity solutions for personal finance and operational technology firms Kresus and Shift5, to sustainability, including direct air capture technology developer Avnos and sustainable aviation fuel developer Aether Fuels.

Sustainable tech has been a particular area of interest, with investments in Rubicon Carbon, which develops software to de-risk carbon credit purchases, and Pulsora, which develops software for collecting, reporting and improving sustainability metrics.

As well as leading investment activity, Burr also oversees the innovation and partnership programmes at JetBlue Ventures. She has always focused on having a strong operations team that can help startups connect with parent company business units. During the past year, her operations team has overseen 20 strategic projects.

Burr is board director for one portfolio company and serves as a board observer for several others. She is a key player in a number of industry groups, serving as an advisory board member for Women Leading in Travel & Hospitality.

She also serves on the board of the JetBlue Foundation, an organisation committed to supporting aviation-related education and STEM initiatives for students from underrepresented backgrounds
