Tom Lounibos first joined Accenture Ventures, the corporate venturing arm of US-based management consultancy Accenture, as an entrepreneur in residence in April 2019, before going on to become the unit’s global managing director in January 2020.

Formed in 2015, Accenture Ventures helps link Accenture’s clients with startups and entrepreneurs that can help them with digital transformation.

Accenture Ventures invests mainly in early-stage startups that are raising seed and series A funding rounds. It has made approximately 85 investments into emerging tech companies from 27 countries. These startups tie into several broad investment themes, including data and AI, quantum computing, robotics and automation, bioscience, skills and reskilling, and space imaging.

Under Lounibos’s direction, Accenture launched Project Spotlight in late 2020, an immersive engagement and investment programme targetting emerging technology software startups that could fill strategic innovation gaps for the Global 2000, the 2000 largest companies in the world.

In addition to capital investments, Project Spotlight offers access to Accenture’s technology domain expertise and its enterprise clients.

Notable investments under the Project Spotlight umbrella include: £13.4m in QuantHealth, the creator of an AI-powered clinical trial simulator; £79.6m in Writer, a platform that creates generative AI content for enterprises; £5.2m in Stardog, whose aim is to make real world context machine understandable; and Open Cosmos, a space technology company which received an £40.1m investment.

Over the past 10 years, Accenture Ventures’ overall portfolio has recognised 25 successful exists and has 60 active portfolio companies under management.
