Dan Primack, a senior editor at publication Fortune known for his Silicon Valley-focused column Term Sheet, revealed yesterday he is to join an as-yet unnamed startup backed by broadcaster NBC News.
That startup is being launched by Jim VandeHei, co-founder of political news outlet Politico, and Politico columnist Mike Allen. It first appeared on GCV’s radar last month when it raised $10m from a consortium including NBC News.
The startup is set to operate a website aimed at professionals and corporate executives, reporting on sectors such as healthcare, technology and politics. It is expected to launch in January 2017 and operate on a premium subscription model with select content made available for free.
Fortune is understood to continue Term Sheet beyond Primack’s departure in a couple of weeks’ time. Primack had been with Fortune since 2010, following 11 years as editor-at-large at Thomson Reuters.
Primack wrote in yesterday’s Term Sheet: “I have decided that this is an adventure worth pursuing. More details to come except that, sufficed to say, I still love what I do and who I do it for (that is you, dearest readers). We will not become strangers.”
