US-based messaging data network operator PubNub completed a $23m series D round on Tuesday that included corporate investors Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE), Cisco, Ericsson and Robert Bosch.
IT services and product supplier HPE, communication technology producer Ericsson, industrial technology provider Robert Bosch and Cisco Investments, a subsidiary of networking technology producer Cisco, were joined by Sapphire Ventures, Relay Ventures and Scale Venture Partners.
Founded in 2010, PubNub has created a data network platform that enables developers to build and manage communications infrastructure such as messaging into their applications.
The software also facilitates geotracking, internet-of-things device control, data visualisations, real-time updates and live audience participation features. The funding will be used to open multiple sales and research and development offices later this year.
Jai Das, Sapphire Ventures’ president and managing director, joined PubNub’s board of directors in conjunction with the round. It has now raised a total of $70m in funding, $6m of which came from Cisco Investments and Ericsson in 2016.
The company closed a $25m series C round the year before that was led by Sapphire Ventures, and which included Robert Bosch’s investment arm, Robert Bosch Venture Capital, Relay Ventures, Scale Venture Partners, Sound Ventures, Tie Angels and Envision Ventures.
Scale Venture Partners had previously led an $11m series B round for PubNub in 2013 that included Tie Angels and Relay Ventures, the latter two having provided $4.5m in series A funding for the company in 2012.
