PubNub sends series C extension memo

US-based messaging data network operator PubNub closed a $25m series C round yesterday after securing an extra $5m from backers including electronics conglomerate Robert Bosch.

Bosch invested through its corporate venturing subsidiary, Robert Bosch Venture Capital, and was joined in the extension by Sound Ventures, Tie Angels and Envision Ventures.

Sapphire Ventures, the venture capital firm spun out of software provider SAP, led the round, which included Relay Ventures, the VC firm backed by phone maker Blackberry, and Scale Venture Partners. The three firms provided the round’s initial $20m in July this year.

Founded in 2010, PubNub’s communications platform and global infrastructure network connects internet of things hardware and other low-latency technologies, enabling them to be remotely controlled in real-time.

PubNub will use the cash to strengthen its focus on the internet of things, clean energy and social collaboration. Scale Venture Partners led the company’s $11m series B round in 2013, which also featured Relay and Tie, the two investors in its $4.5m series A round in 2012.
