Puppet Labs strings together backers

Corporate venturing unit Google Ventures, computer networking corporation Cisco and software company VMware all contributed to the $8.5m series C funding round for US-based automation software company Puppet Labs, on Tuesday.

Also participating in the round were venture capital firms Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and True Ventures, and principal investment firm Radar Partners, the three previously making up Puppet Labs’ series B investors.

Puppet Labs’ series B round raised $5m, coming after a series A round supported by Radar, True and angel investor Glenn Winokur. Puppet Labs puts its overall funding at $15.75m.

Founded in 2007, Puppet Labs produces automation software for use by system administrators in bringing cloud computing to businesses, and numbers Zynga, Twitter, Citrix and Disney among its customers. Additionally, VMware and Cisco are two of the computing companies with which Puppet Labs has offered integrations for its software.

Karim Faris, partner at Google Ventures, said: "Global companies need efficient solutions to manage their on-premise and cloud infrastructures. The Puppet Labs team has demonstrated the market traction and leadership to capitalize on this tremendous opportunity, and we’re looking forward to working with them to grow the business."
