Qualcomm Technologies, a wholly-owned subsidiary of US-based semiconductor company Qualcomm, has acquired certain assets of EPOS Development, a developer of ultrasound technologies for input solutions. No financial terms were disclosed.
EPOS’ existing backers include Israeli production company Tel-Ad, Jerusalem Venture Partners, who have over $900m under management through 6 Venture Capital Funds, and Walden Israel Venture Capital, an Israeli fund that is a part of the Walden International and WaldenVC.
Several EPOS team members will now join Qualcomm’s R&D team to focus on new mobile devices and service capabilities.
Raj Talluri, senior Vice president at Qualcomm Technologies, said: “As computing evolves beyond the PC, consumers are looking for intuitive new ways to interact with their mobile device. EPOS’ technology goes beyond the PC-era mouse and keyboard and enables touch-free gesture and pen interactions as user input mechanisms, enabling this technology on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processor will allow devices that accommodate a more mobile and multimedia-centric lifestyle.”
This acquisition marks Qualcomm’s third in Israel. Earlier this year Qualcomm acquired system-on-chip devloper DesignArt Networks for between $120-$140m. Last last year Qualcomm bought iSkoot, a mobile web company for between $50m to $100m.
