Qualcomm’s corporate venturing unit has backed BlueStacks, an "app for PC" software company with an undisclosed sum.
Qualcomm is the latest corporate to back BlueStacks, joining New York-listed chipmaker AMD and technology company Citrix Systems, which both last October helped BlueStacks raise $6.4m. This took it to $14m raised during its history.
BlueStacks’ technology allows users to convert Android apps to use them on Windows computers.
Nagraj Kashyap, vice president of Qualcomm Ventures, said: "Consumers are increasingly looking for computing experiences that enable them to access their apps across different platforms. We believe BlueStacks is well positioned to capitalize on the marriage of mobile and PC."
The company released the beta version of its app on March 27 and had more than one million downloads in the first 10 days.
That round was also joined by venture firms Andreessen Horowitz, Ignition Ventures, Radar Partners, Redpoint Ventures, and other investors, according to news provider TechCrunch.
Helion Ventures was cited as another investor, by news provider All Things Digital, which said it backed the company’s $7.6m series A round in May 2011.
