Placemeter, a US-based start-up that converts video feeds to data, has secured $6m from a series A round backed by investors including wireless technology producer Qualcomm.
Qualcomm, which invested through its corporate venturing arm, Qualcomm Ventures, participated alongside New Enterprise Associates (NEA), which led the round, Collaborative Fund, Triplepoint Capital and existing angel investors.
Founded in 2012, Placemeter has developed a system that takes video data sourced from sensors in the real world and converts it to quantitative data it believes can enable it to make predictive decisions.
NEA and TriplePoint previously contributed to a $1.7m seed round raised by Placemeter in November 2013. It will invest the latest cash infusion in developing its big data analytics platform.
