Brazil-based taxi app operator 99Taxi has secured an undisclosed sum from a series A round backed by investors including Qualcomm Ventures, the investment arm of mobile chipmaker Qualcomm.
The round was led by investment firm Tiger Global and featured participation by venture capital firm Monashees Capital. Qualcomm and Monashees previously provided an undisclosed amount of seed funding for 99Taxi in 2013.
Founded in 2012, 99Taxi provides a service that connects passengers with more than 100,000 licensed taxi drivers in Brazil, 30,000 of which are situated in Brazil’s largest city, Sao Paulo.
99Taxi will invest the money in strengthening its platform and branding, and to develop new features for its app.
