RapidSOS, a US-based emergency response service operator backed by corporates AAA, CSAA, Microsoft and Motorola Solutions, raised $21m on Wednesday in a round led by growth equity fund Transformation Capital.
The round included Laerdal Million Lives Fund and C5 Capital’s C5 Impact Partners fund, and it took the company’s overall funding to $107m.
RapidSOS provides a software tool that integrates analogue emergency calls with multimedia including patient profiles and data generated by connected apps and devices.
The company will use the funding to mitigate effects of the Covid-19 pandemic by enhancing its existing technology in order to assist first responders dealing with the pandemic.
Highland Capital Partners led RapidSOS’s $14m series A round in 2017, investing with Motorola Solutions Venture Capital and A3 Ventures, respective subsidiaries of communications equipment provider Motorola Solutions and motor club AAA, as well as Westly Group, Two Sigma Ventures, Responder Ventures and multiple angel investors.
Automotive insurance provider CSAA and M12, the corporate venturing arm of software provider Microsoft, both took part in a $16m round the following year that was also led by Highland Capital.
RapidSOS then closed a $55m series B round backed by M12, CSAA, Energy Impact Partners, Playground Global, Highland Capital Partners, Forte Ventures, Two Sigma Ventures and Westly Group that closed in October 2019.
