RapidSOS, a US-based emergency response technology provider backed by corporate investors AAA, CSAA, Microsoft and Motorola Solutions, raised $85m in series C funding on Tuesday.
Growth equity firm Insight Partners led the round, which pushed the company’s overall funding to $200m since it was founded in 2012. It secured $51.2m from undisclosed backers last month, according to a securities filing, which likely forms part of the latest deal.
RapidSOS has built a software platform that enables users to send their location information and medical records to the first responders in an emergency situation. The tool connects relevant data collected from more than 350 million devices to emergency medical services providers.
Growth equity fund Transformation Capital led a $21m round for the company in June 2020, investing alongside venture capital firm C5 Capital and VC fund Laerdal Million Lives Fund.
Automotive insurer CSAA and M12, the investment arm of software supplier Microsoft, backed a $55m series B round for RapidSOS in late 2019 that included Energy Impact Partners, Forte Ventures, Highland Capital Partners, Playground Global, Two Sigma Ventures, Westly Group and individuals including Ralph de la Vega.
CSAA and M12 had already participated in a $16m round for the company the year before that was led by Highland Capital.
Highland Capital also led RapidSOS’s $14m series A round in 2017, investing with A3 Ventures and Motorola Solutions Venture Capital, respective vehicles for motor club AAA and network equipment maker Motorola Solutions, as well as Responder Ventures, Two Sigma, Westly Group and several private investors.
