Open-Source Virtual Reality (OSVR), the virtual reality technology consortium headed by gaming product manufacturer Razer, launched a $5m fund on Monday that will provide funding to virtual reality gaming studios.
Razer will lead the fund but expects to harness support from other companies in the industry. OSVR is an ecosystem co-founded and run by Razer that aims to develop VR content through a cohesive platform.
Justin Cooney, director of developer relations at OSVR, said: “We understand content developers have various development challenges, and we are committed to helping them get ahead of those barriers.
“The OSVR Developer Fund helps to support initial sales while enabling developers to contribute to the VR industry as a whole. Together, OSVR and its content partners enjoy the realisation of a shared vision for the future of VR.”
OSVR plans to begin shipping its second headset, the HDK2, from next month and will sell the product for $400.
