Sweden-based online telecommunications company Rebtel has spun out Sinch, a business that produces a tool allowing smartphone app developers to include free calling and messaging within their apps.
Sinch launched with a SEK80m ($12m) series A round from Rebtel, and venture capital firms Index Ventures and Balderton Capital.
Andreas Bernström chief executive of Sinch, said that many smartphone apps today make use of text and voice messaging but that developing this technology requires substantial knowledge and investment. With Sinch, developers only need to spend minutes adding its technology and Sinch’s systems can take care of the rest.
Matchmaking smartphone app Maybe is one of the first to make use of Sinch’s technology.
