Software company Red Hat agreed on Thursday to acquire Ireland-based mobile app platform developer FeedHenry in a €63.5m ($81.5m) cash deal that will provide an exit to Intel and VMware.
Founded in 2010 as a spin-out from the Waterford Institute of Technology, FeedHenry runs a platform for developers to create native (Android, iOS, Windows Phone and Blackberry), hybrid, HTML5 or web-based mobile apps.
Intel Capital, the corporate venturing arm of semiconductor maker Intel, led a $9m series A round for FeedHenry in May 2013 that remains the only round of funding it has publicly disclosed.
Software producer VMware also invested in that round, as did Kernel Capital Partners, ACT Venture Capital and the state-backed Enterprise Ireland.
