Sweden-based virtual reality (VR) games studio Resolution Games closed a $6m series A round yesterday led by Google Ventures, the corporate venturing arm of internet company Google.
Partech Ventures, Creandum, Initial Capital, Bonnier Growth Media and unnamed additional backers also took part in the round, which marks the first investment by Google Ventures in Sweden.
Resolution is developing a range of VR games and expects to use the series A funds to hire more developers, in turn ensuring more rapid production of multiple games.
The company, which was founded earlier this year, has launched one title so far, a take on solitaire (pictured), and hopes to release a second game in early 2016.
Joe Kraus, general partner of Google Ventures, said: “The pace of development in VR will be very high over the next five years, with mobile VR at the forefront because anyone with a smartphone has the core of a VR experience already in their pocket.
“[Resolutio co-founder and CEO Tommy Palm] and his team have a proven track record of game development and successful entrepreneurship, and we are excited about what Resolution Games is going to do.”
