Canada-based corporate venture-backed BlackBerry Partners Fund and phone maker Research In Motion (RIM) have doubled the prize for its annual Blackberry Developer Challenge to $3m, while one of its fund managers has exited Tungle.
It is the fund’s fourth event for Blackberry developers with applications due by August in most cases.
This year’s challenge includes the following three competitions:
Best Adobe Flash/AIR app
Most Innovative BlackBerry WebWorks app on the BlackBerry PlayBook and BlackBerry 6
Most Addictive social app using the BBM Social Platform.
Separately, JLA Ventures has sold portfolio company Tungle that provides a calendar scheduling application to RIM, the maker of the BlackBerry phone.
JLA has recently merged with RBC Venture Capital, its other co-manager of the BlackBerry fund.
Tungle raised $6m over two rounds, with its other investors including Desjardins Venture Capital and Commonwealth Capital Ventures.
