RingCentral secures Joseph Kennedy as board member

Joseph Kennedy, chief executive of internet radio broadcaster Pandora is brought on as an addition to Cisco-backed cloud company RingCentral’s current five member board of directors.

He joined Pandora in his current capacity in 2004 and his previous positions include president and CEO of financial service provider E-loan Inc (2001—2004), and vice president of sales service and marketing for automobile manufacture Saturn Corporation (1995—1999).

Vlad Shmunims , executive cchairman of RingCentral welcomed Mr. Kennedy’s on board, saying: “Joe has an impressive track record of transforming major industries through imagination and innovation. His expertise will help guide RingCentral as we reimagine business phone systems worldwide.”

RingCentral provides cloud based on demand telecommunication services for small and medium sized businesses bypassing traditional on premise phone systems. Its last round of funding was a $10m series D round in September 2011, led by Scale Ventures, and included investments from venture firms Sequoia Capital, Khosla Ventures, DAG Ventures, Silicon Valley Bank as well as network equipment giant Cisco Systems.

Addressing his appointment Kennedy said: “They are [RingCentral is] doing to business communications what Pandora is doing to radio – namely offering substantially richer experiences through the use of personalized, cloud-based services. It is my pleasure to contribute to their success by becoming a part of the outstanding team at RingCentral.”

Kennedy is set to join current board members Vlad Shmunis, RingCentral’s founder chairman and CEO; Douglas Leone, general partner of Sequoia Capital; David Weiden, general partner at Khosla Ventures; Robert Theis, managing director at Scale Venture Partners; and Neil Williams, Chief Financial Officer, Intuit.
