Campanda, a Germany-based booking platform for camper vans, completed a €5m ($5.5m) series A round on Wednesday backed by media conglomerate Ringier’s corporate venturing subsidiary, Ringier Digital Ventures.
Corporate-backed venture capital fund EcoMobility Ventures led the round, which also featured Groupe Arnault, an investment firm backed by luxury goods producer LVMH, private equity firm IdInvest Partners, Atlantic Labs, Accel Partners and B-to-V.
Founded in 2013, Campanda’s service enables users to rent camper vans both from commercial suppliers and individual owners. The company operates in 32 countries and currently offers some 21,000 vans through its platform.
Campanda will use the series A funding to support further international expansion, increase its market share in the countries in which it currently operates and extend its marketing efforts. It had previously raised €2.2m from investors including B-to-V, Atlantic Labs and Möller Ventures, according to TechCrunch.
EcoMobility Ventures is backed by rail network operator SNCF, oil group Total, tyre manufacturer Michelin, mobile network operator Orange and industrial gases producer Air Liquide.
IdInvest closed a €140m fund earlier this month backed by insurance company Allianz’s France-based subsidiary, media group Lagardère, recruitment firm Up Group, and state-backed fund Bpifrance.
