Roam Robotics walks away with $12m

US-based robotics maker Roam Robotics has raised $12m in a series A funding round led by Yamaha Motor Ventures, the corporate venturing unit of automotive and motor manufacturer Yamaha.

The round featured venture capital firms Boost VC, Heuristics Capital Partners, Menlo Ventures, R7 Partners, Spero Venture and Valor Equity Partners as well as investment firm Venture Investment Associates.

Founded in 2013, Roam Robotics is building a robotic external skeleton called Elevate, which will help people ski, walk and run by strengthening the leg muscles, improving stability and reducing muscle fatigue and joint pressure.

Roam will use the series A round to fund the release of Elevate, which is currently being demoed.

Amish Parashar, partner at Yamaha Motor Ventures, said: “Roam is creating an exciting new category of products that enhance human capabilities.

“By making these robotic exoskeletons affordable, scalable, and powerful Roam has removed the biggest barriers to widespread adoption. We envision these products will one day be commonly used to create new thrilling experiences and support human mobility.”
