Robin Radar, a Netherlands-based avian radar company, has raised an undisclosed amount from Mainport Innovation Fund, which has Schiphol Airport and airline KLM as investors.
Alongside Mainport in the Robin round was Inkef Capital, which invests on behalf of pension funds.
Launch customer is Schipol Airport, a limited partner behind the Mainport fund. Jos Nijhuis, chief executive of Schiphol, said: “With this technology Robin meets the growing need for more accurate and real-time information about movements of (large) birds in the vicinity of the airport. In January, we begin a one year trail to gain experience with Robin and its effectiveness at Schiphol Airport.”
In November, Mainport had Nijhuis and Sicco Santema, professor at Technology University of Delft, another LP in the fund, join its investment committee, alongside Erik Swelheim, chief financial officer of KLM, and Joost Verbeek, managing director of Rabo Private Equity, which manages the fund.
This followed the addition of Ronald Gelderblom and Rolph Seegers, who joined the Mainport fund committee earlier in the year.
