Rockett takes off from Kaiser Permanente

Liz Rockett has left her managing director role at Kaiser Permanente Ventures (KPV), the corporate venturing arm of US-based healthcare provider Kaiser Permanente, the latest in a series of senior departures from the unit.

The news follows the exits of KPV managing director Amy Belt Raimundo in June 2021 and senior managing director Sam Brasch earlier this month. Prior to his departure, Global Corporate Venturing included Brasch in this year’s edition of its Powerlist.

The departures have left the KPV team with just three executive managing directors from its parent firm: chief operating officer and executive vice-president (EVP) Chris Grant; Artie Southam, its EVP of health plan operations; and Chris Stenzel, vice-president of business development and innovation.

Belt Raimundo has co-founded healthtech-focused venture capital fund Convey Capital as managing partner while Brasch is a managing director at New Leaf Venture Partners, the healthcare-focused investment vehicle spun out of VC firm Sprout Group.

Rockett said in a LinkedIn post: “I’ll be using the next few months to explore some new projects, particularly around innovative investing and entrepreneurial models that centre social impact; funding diverse founders; and generally digging into how to change the capitalist norms they aren’t serving us.”

KPV hired Rockett in 2015 as a principal before promoting her to managing director six years later. She focused on areas such as social enterprise, healthcare IT and digital health.

During her time at the unit, Rockett held board seats at mental health therapy developer Big Health, affordable food provider Everytable and Osso VR, which has built a virtual reality-based surgical training system, as well as DexCare, the creator of a healthcare access intelligence platform.

Rockett also served on the boards of illness management software developer Omada Health, opioid addiction treatment provider Groups Recover Together and Rock Health, a seed-stage digital health fund backed by KPV.
