UK-based music technology provider Roli secured $27m on Wednesday in a series B round featuring music label Universal Music Group.
Venture capital firm Foundry Group led the round, which included BGF Ventures, the VC fund formed by UK government-mandated growth equity fund Business Growth Fund, as well as Founders Fund, Balderton Capital, FirstMark Capital, Index Ventures and Horizons Ventures.
Roli has developed a range of products, the most notable of which is Seaboard Rise, a smooth, touch-responsive, soft silicon electronic keyboard that connects to a software synthesiser Roli has produced called Equator.
The company has also released an app called Noise, which turns mobile devices into musical instruments, and acquired cloud-based music sharing platform Blend in October 2015.
The series B funding will be used to meet demand for Roli’s products, enter new markets and scale its product, engineering and marketing teams
Roli had previously raised $12.8m in series A capital from Universal Music, Balderton Capital, FirstMark Capital and Index Ventures in mid-2014.
