MasterImage 3D, a US-based maker three-dimension (3D) services for mobile devices, has raised $15m from Samsung Venture Investment Corporation, the corporate venturing unit of South Korea-based electronics conglomerate Samsung.
Ilseok Yoon, managing director of Samsung Ventures America, said: "Our investment in MasterImage 3D is consistent with our strategy to work closely with established market leaders. The company was early to market with auto-stereoscopic 3D mobile displays and has built a significant business in 3D cinema."
Younghoon Lee, executive chairman of MasterImage 3D, added: "We are committing this investment to innovation – specifically, to advancing our 3D solutions for cinema, smartphones, tablets, and larger auto-stereoscopic displays."
Founded in 2004, MasterImage 3D was renamed after an acquisition and $15m recapitalization by holding company Symphony 3D in December 2009 and moved to the US from Korea.
