Sandbox finds its Essence again in $71m round

Essence Group Holdings, a US-based developer of cloud systems for the healthcare industry, has raised $71m in new funding, St Louis Business Journal reported on Friday.

Participants in the round included Sandbox Industries, which manages venture capital investments for health insurance provider Blue Cross Blue Shield, as well as VC firms Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers (KPCB) and Camden Partners.

Essence, which operates as Lumeris, produces software tools that can help healthcare providers and administrators run their services more efficiently.

The company secured $70m in 2011 from Sandbox, which invested $9m, KPCB and Camden in 2011. Prior to that round, it raised approximately $43.6m from 2007 to 2009 according to SEC filings.
