Sandbox, a UK-based operator of millennial learning and entertainment companies, has acquired Fingerprint, a US-based mobile technology company that powers games and curates edutainment for children, for an undisclosed amount.
Fingerprint’s Kidomi unit will form part of Sandbox Kids along with existing Sandbox properties Hopster and Curious World.
Founded in 2015, Sandbox has acquired 13 digital learning products, including most recently Teachit and Code Kingdoms.
In June 2014, Fingerprint raised $10.9m in a series B round led by film studio Dreamworks Animation.
Dreamworks was joined by existing investors including media company Corus Entertainment and what was then called Reed Elsevier Ventures, the corporate venturing arm of publisher Reed Elsevier (now called RELX).
Founded in 2010, Fingerprint raised a $1.4m seed round including Reed Elsevier, games developer THQ, K2MediaLabs and Suffolk Holdings in 2011, followed by a $7.8m series A in September 2012 from Corus.
