Alec Saunders has rejoined US-based software company Microsoft as principal technical evangelist, and will promote its corporate venturing unit Microsoft Ventures, Microsoft News reported yesterday.
Saunders will be based in Canada and will form part of the company’s developer experience team, reporting to Steven Guggenheimer, Microsoft’s chief evangelist and corporate vice-president for developer experience. He worked at Microsoft from 1992 to 2000, and helped to launch internet browser Internet Explore and operating systems DOS 6 and Windows.
Prior to coming back to Microsoft, Saunders was vice-president of developer relations and ecosystem development at Blackberry, which he joined in 2011.
Saunders wrote in a blog post: “Despite being away from Microsoft for 14 years, my experiences there provided some of the most enduring lessons of my career – lessons that I have relied on daily in every role I have held since.
“Those lessons range from campaign mechanics, to management, culture, scale and execution. As many of my former staff at BlackBerry will tell you, we often took lessons from Microsoft and applied them to great effect.”
