Sam Schillace (pictured), a principal in the investment team at search engine Google’s corporate venturing unit, has left to join cloud storage company Box as vice-president of engineering.
Schillace had spent a little over a year at Google Ventures and remains on its website as an adviser, but joined the company in 2006 as a senior engineering director when it acquired his start-up Writely that became part of Google Docs.
Before joining Google Ventures, Schillace had also been an entrepreneur-in-residence and founded Restartle.
He joins Box after its latest $125m round but has spent two years on the cloud company’s technical advisory board.
Box has also hired Evan Wittenberg as vice-president of people from a similar role at computer maker Hewlett-Packard.
