US-based oil services company Schlumberger has invested NKr10m ($1.8m) in Wirescan, a Norway-based company founded in 2005 to inspect power cables, as its first public corporate venturing deal.
Schlumberger had recently started a corporate venturing fund, Innovation Capital, and is putting Kjell-Erik Østdahl on Wirescan’s board.
In May, Siemens Venture Capital, the corporate venturing arm of Germany-based conglomerate Siemens, co-led the initial external investment in Wirescan.
Wirescan has raised NKr25m ($3.85m) in funding from Siemens and SåkorninVest II, a company managed by Norway-based venture capital firm Procom Venture.
Gerd Goette, investment partner at Siemens Venture Capital, a unit of Siemens Financial Services, and Jørn Gergeland, partner of Procom Venture, which represents SåkorninVest II, joined Wirescan’s board.
