US-based carpooling app developer Scoop Technologies secured $5.1m on Wednesday in a round featuring the corporate venturing subsidiaries of vehicle manufacturer BMW and enterprise software producer Workday.
BMW i Ventures and Workday Ventures were joined by venture capital fund Signia Venture Partners, which led the round, and VC firm Index Ventures. Other investors and advisors include David Ko, Elizabeth Gore, Paul McDonald, Brett Slatkin, Russ Fradin, Zach Weinberg and Zaw Thet.
Scoop launched its mobile carpooling service in August 2015 and has since been responsible for 50,000 carpooled trips. The app uses a matching algorithm to link users who live and work in similar areas, and unlike services such as Uber, users drive themselves.
The company operates in San Francisco, Palo Alto, San Jose, Pleasanton and Sunnyvale, and has secured corporate partners including Cisco, Salesforce, Workday, Airbnb, Tesla, and Sandisk.
