ScyllaDB files away $25m

Israel-based database technology provider ScyllaDB has secured $25m in funding from investors including Qualcomm Ventures, mobile semiconductor producer Qualcomm’s corporate venturing unit.

Eight Roads Ventures, a venture capital arm of investment and financial services group Fidelity, led the round, which also featured Bessemer Venture Partners (BVP), Magma Venture Partners and TLV Partners.

ScyllaDB has developed a version of a NoSQL database – a model that eschews the tabular relations utilised in traditional databases – that it claims performs to a high standard with a high level of flexibility.

Davor Hebel, head of Eight Roads’ European team, will joining the board of directors at ScyllaDB in conjunction with the round, which increased the company’s overall funding to $60m.

Qualcomm and existing investor BVP joined Western Digital Capital and Samsung Ventures, subsidiaries of hard disk manufacturer Western Digital and consumer electronics producer Samsung, as well as Magma Ventures to provide $16m of series B funding for ScyllaDB in 2017.

The company added $10m in an April 2018 series C round led by TLV Partners that included Qualcomm Ventures, Western Digital, BVP and Magma Venture Partners.
