Sefuri takes top prize at B Dash Camp

Japan-based startup Sefuri has won top prize at B Dash Camp, the startup conference run by corporate-backed venture fund B Dash Ventures, The Bridge reported yesterday.

Sefuri is the developer and operator of Yamap, a mountain climbing-oriented social networking app that gives users satellite location outside of ordinary cellular phone coverage.

A total of 54 Japan-based startups went to B Dash Camp last week and were judged by a jury of industry professionals who selected 12 companies to compete for prizes.

B Dash’s Japan-based limited partners include telecom company NTT Docomo’s investment subsidiary NTT Docomo Ventures, internet services provider NEC Biglobe, social gaming network Gree, online  marketing company Septeni and financial institution Mitsubishi UFJ Capital.

Sefuri received 50,000 air miles and a related membership card for three people from Japan Airlines, a stay at hot spring resort Myojinkan and a Kindle Fire and Kindle reader from internet company Amazon’s subsidiary Amazon Data Services Japan.

Video crowdsourcing platform Crevo won the PayPal award, receiving $1.5m in transaction credits from online payment processing platform PayPal, while video selfie app developer Pocket Supernova was given 50,000 air miles from Japan Airlines and membership cards for two people after winning a supplementary award.
