Indonesia-based online medical services platform Alodokter secured $33m today in a series C round led by Sequis Life, the life insurance subsidiary of commodities trading group Gunung Sewu.
Electronics and healthcare technology producer Philips also took part in the round, as did SoftBank Ventures Asia, a corporate venturing vehicle for telecommunications and internet group SoftBank, and Heritas Capital Management, an investment vehicle for maritime consulting firm IMC Group.
The round was filled out by fund manager Hera Capital, venture capital firms Dayli Partners and Golden Gate Ventures and undisclosed additional investors.
Alodokter runs an online healthcare portal with more than 20 million Indonesian monthly active users that offers access to a network of 20,000 affiliated doctors, enabling users to seek medical advice and schedule in-clinic appointments.
Patients can also use the system to review insurance policies they have set up with private sector providers, including Alodokter Protection, an Alodokter product that offers benefits like unlimited online consultations and premium hospital access.
The series C funding will help the company refine Alodokter Protection and extend its network of healthcare affiliates.
Alodokter raised $9m in a late 2017 series B round led by SoftBank Ventures Asia forerunner SoftBank Venture Korea and backed by private investor Feng He and Golden Gate Ventures, the latter of which had already led a $2.5m series A round the previous year.
Early-stage investment firm Fenox Venture Capital had reportedly led a seed round of undisclosed size for the company in 2015 that included Golden Gate Ventures, VC firm 500 Startups and angel investor Lim Der Shing.
