ServiceNow backs BuildOnMe and gets a Qlue

Enterprise software supplier ServiceNow has invested an undisclosed amount in BuildOnMe, the US-based creator of a chatbot for human resources.

BuildOnMe has developed artificial intelligence technology that enables businesses to automate certain HR functions. The bot, which operates on ServiceNow’s enterprise cloud services platform, Now, can learn as it goes, making it more adept at handling enquiries the more it is used.

The investment was disclosed alongside ServiceNow’s acquisition of Qlue, a US-based developer of AI technology that can be used to help virtual agents answer questions, for an undisclosed sum. Qlue had not disclosed details of any past funding.

Dave Wright, ServiceNow’s chief strategy officer, said on Wednesday: “ServiceNow’s strategy is to build, buy and partner to accelerate our customers’ path to intelligent automation.

“Today’s investments show our commitment to greater intelligence for everyday work on the Now platform. This helps our customers gain greater efficiencies from their operations while providing superior user experiences for their employees and customers.”

News of the deals emerged days after ServiceNow announced the winners of CreatorCon Challenge, an initiative in which entrepreneurs competed to create the best applications for the ServiceNow platform.

Factor5, the developer of a workflow management tool for university curriculum information management, won the $250,000 first prize. Enterprise identity account management platform developer ClearSkye received $150,000 for coming second while elderly care aid creator Help-Full got $100,000 for third.
