AAA ServiceNow secures BrightPoint acquisition

ServiceNow secures BrightPoint acquisition

Enterprise cloud company ServiceNow yesterday confirmed it will acquire US-based cybersecurity company BrightPoint Security, backed by data storage hardware producer EMC.

The deal is set to be completed by the end of the month and will be consist of an all-cash transaction, though further financial details remain undisclosed. ServiceNow said it will reveal additional information as part of its second quarter financial results announcement.

Founded in 2011, BrightPoint has developed a threat intelligence platform that collects, analyses and securely shares information on emerging cyberthreats. The company was originally launched as Vorstack but rebranded in June 2015.

BrightPoint’s technology will be integrated into ServiceNow’s Security Operations platform.

EMC Ventures, the investment arm of EMC, took part in a $5.2m series A round in 2014. The round was led by TechOperators and also featured existing investor Aligned Partners.

Vorstack has not confirmed details about any funding rounds prior to the series A, though Founder Collective provided an undisclosed sum in 2011, according to deals database CrunchBase. The database also lists a deal of undisclosed size in April 2015 involving the Perkins Fund, but the claim is unsourced.

Sean Convey, vice-president and general manager of security at ServiceNow, said: “This acquisition strengthens ServiceNow’s commitment to closing the gap between IT operations and security.

“BrightPoint will further differentiate the connected experience that ServiceNow users have across security processes and teams.”
