US-based app security technology provider Seworks has completed an $8.2m series A round co-led by subsidiaries of mobile chipmaker Qualcomm, telecommunications firm SoftBank and mobile gaming company Smilegate.
Smilegate Investment, Qualcomm Ventures and Softbank Ventures were joined by Samsung Ventures, the corporate venturing vehicle for electronics manufacturer Samsung, and Wonik Investment Partners, the venture capital firm formerly known as Hanmi Technology Investment.
Founded in 2013, Seworks has built a cloud-based app security platform called AppSolid that enables developers to apply binary protection once app development is finished, meaning they do not have to add separate coding to cover security.
The company had received $2m in seed funding from Softbank Ventures and Qualcomm Ventures in 2013 before it raised the $3m first tranche of the series A round two years later.
