Shogakukan Accelerator, an incubator and accelerator co-run by Japan-based publishing group Hitotsubashi’s Shogakukan and Shogakukan-Shueisha Productions (ShoPro) subsidiaries, has revealed its first batch of participants.
The programme was formed in partnership with incubator 01Booster in June this year, concentrating on education, entertainment and other synergistic areas including pet care, wellness and regional revitalisation technologies. The initial cohort was chosen out of about 140 applicants.
Selected teams included 10Up, a developer of mixed reality-based education technology, and Edit & Co, a producer of handmade apparel items, as well as space experience content creator Amulapo, organic cookie dough provider Coloridoh and Funfam, which sells locally produced wooden tableware.
Esports technology developer Gecipe made up the batch with Mantra, the creator of a machine translation engine for Japanese manga; TanQ, which is working on a gamified remote education service; Toy Eight; the edutainment startup also known as Toybox Creations and Technology; and Whomor, a manga-inspired graphic design company.
