Industrial product and appliance producer Siemens has paid an undisclosed amount for Building Robotics, the US-based creator of building experience app Comfy, allowing corporates Alphabet, Microsoft and CBRE to exit.
Comfy is a mobile platform that allows employees to access environmental control systems in buildings, such as lighting or temperature, in addition to finding and booking desks and meeting rooms. They can also contact support staff to handle maintenance issues.
The company had raised $18.6m across three rounds, beginning with $1.1m in seed funding from GV, a subsidiary of internet technology group Alphabet, as well as Claremont Creek Ventures, Formation 8, Navitas Capital and Red Swan Ventures and various angel investors in 2013.
Claremont Creek and Westly Group co-led a $5.5m round for Building Robotics in 2014, and were joined by M12, the subsidiary of software provider Microsoft then known as Microsoft Ventures, as well as real estate services firm CBRE and Emergence Capital for a $12m series B two years later.
Matthias Rebellius, chief executive of Siemens’ Building Technologies division, said: “This move further strengthens our leadership position in smart building.
“With the Comfy app we will bring a consumer-like experience to commercial buildings that simplifies the interaction with buildings to increase employee productivity and engagement.”
