Idinvest Partners, a private equity firm backed by media company Lagardère, insurance provider Allianz and state-backed BPIfrance, led an $8.4m series B round for France-based video communications platform SightCall on Thursday.
Founded in 2007, SightCall’s technology enables customer support staff to see a user’s issue through the back camera on their smartphone. Users are sent a text message with a link that opens a video chat, enabling staff to help resolve a problem by offering real-time guidance.
The series B round, which follows a $1.3m seed investment by Idinvest in 2011 and a $3m investment two years later, will support increased marketing and sales efforts.
The company was originally incorporated as Wimo before being renamed Weemo, subsequently rebranding to SightCall in September 2014.
