Signet signals Rocksbox acquisition

Diamond jewellery retailer Signet has acquired US-based jewellery rental service Rocksbox for an undisclosed amount, allowing digital marketing agency Opt to exit.

Founded in 2012, Rocksbox runs a subscription service enabling users to borrow jewellery through its online platform. Signet is buying it as part of a drive to strengthen the services part of its business.

The company emerged through accelerator MuckerLab in 2013 before securing $1.5m from Matrix Partners and angel investors Ellen Levy and Sonja Perkins the following year.

Matrix Partners and KEC Ventures co-led an $8.7m series A round for Rocksbox in 2016, investing with SignalFire, BBG Ventures and MuckerLabs’ Mucker Capital investment vehicle. Bonds Investment Group, the Opt subsidiary formerly known as Opt Ventures, also lists it as a portfolio company.
