SingTel puts cash on the line for impact incubator

Singapore-based telecommunications company SingTel has provided funding to a startup incubator called Enabling Change that will fund technology developed to aid the disabled, Tech in Asia has reported.

Social impact incubator Unframed formed Enabling Change but SingTel will act as a strategic partner, and has agreed to supply the majority of the funding for the 10 startups that will participate in the five-month programme.

Jan Croeni, the founder of flash sales platform Deal.com.sg, is also providing backing.

The 10 selected startups will each receive a seed investment of S$10,000 ($7,500) and Unframed will in return take an equity stake of up to 10% that will be exercised within two years.

Unframed will also provide mentoring for the startups during the five-month initiative, which will be followed by an additional six-month fellowship programme. Startups will need to submit applications by May 24th this year.

SingTel makes the majority of its investments in startups through its S$200m corporate venturing fund, SingTel Innov8.
