Sixgill clicks with corporates to raise $15m

Israel-based enterprise cyber threat intelligence provider Sixgill received $15m on Tuesday in a funding round co-led by subsidiaries of data analytics firm RELX and retail and financial services group Sonae.

The round also featured technology holding company Elron Electronic Industries, equity crowdfunding platform OurCrowd and venture capital firm Terra Venture Partners, while RELX and Sonae invested through REV Venture Partners and Sonae IM respectively.

Founded in 2014, Sixgill produces software that helps large enterprises, governments and law enforcement agencies automate intelligence gathering on cybersecurity threats.

The platform automatically evaluates data on potential cybercriminals and scrapes encoded messages from sources accessible only through specialised software, in what is known generally as the deep web.

Kevin Brown, the founder partner of REV Venture Partners, said: “The dark web represents an increasing challenge for large enterprises across all industries; this is especially true for financial services, manufacturers, critical infrastructure providers and governments.

“We are delighted to invest in Sixgill as they continue to assist organisations in proactively reducing risk vulnerabilities.”

The fresh capital will go toward product development and operational growth as Sixgill looks to expand its foothold across markets in North America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and the Asia-Pacific region.

Sixgill officially launched in 2016 having completed a $5m series A round that was led by Elron Electronic, according to Globes. Terra Venture Partners was also identified as an existing investor in the latest round.
