US-based video game developer Cloud Imperium raised $17.3m from existing investors including film production studio Snoot Entertainment on Friday.
The round also featured the family office owned by Snoot co-founders Keith Calder and Jess Wu Calder as well as an entity called ITG Investment.
Cloud Imperium is the developer of massively multiplayer space-themed exploration and trading game Star Citizen, and a single-player space adventure called Squadron 42 which features a voice cast including Mark Hammill, Gillian Anderson and Gary Oldman.
Star Citizen has been in development since 2011 and has raised some $150m through crowdfunding campaigns allowing participants to reserve specialised spacecraft for the game. The vast projected scale of the title has however led many onlookers to conclude it may never be completed.
Snoot Entertainment and the Calder family office had previously invested $46m in Cloud Imperium in December 2018 at a $450m pre-money valuation.
