SoftBank delivers for Sendcloud’s $177m series C

Telecommunications and internet group SoftBank’s Vision Fund 2 led a $177m series C round yesterday for Netherlands-based e-commerce shipping platform Sendcloud.

Private equity firm L Catterton and technology investment firm HPE Growth filled out the round.

Sendcloud runs a platform for online merchants to connect to logistics companies to pick the optimal service for a specific delivery.

It will use the funding to expand its geographical footprint and grow its team from 400 to around 650 over the next year.

Insurance company Axa’s corporate venturing arm Axa Venture Partners led the $14.9m series B round in November 2020, joined by BOM Brabant Ventures and Bonsai Partners. Rabobank also provided debt financing as part of the round.

BOM Brabant Ventures and Bonsai Partners previously took part in a round worth an undisclosed multimillion euro sum alongside HenQ in October 2019, after all three participated in a $6m round in 2017 that also featured Tiin Capital.

Rob van den Heuvel, co-founder and chief executive of Sendcloud, said: “At a time when consumers around the world want to decide where, when and how they want to receive a parcel, leading online merchants depend on Sendcloud to fuel their logistics process.

“To engage consumers in the long term and successfully process growing parcel volumes, a multi-carrier solution like Sendcloud is essential, and we are proud to partner with Softbank and L Catterton and embark on a new chapter of growth for our business.”
